Then there’s that stage
\nbetween Mother and Crone
\nwhen the maidens, clean as dryer sheets
\nare unbearable to fathom,
\nand all your chickadees, real or
\nproverbial, have flown the coop
\nand you find
\nyourself blissfully alone
\nwith your attitude problem and your
\nungodly imagination, and to top it
\nall off, you’re pretty certain you’ve developed
\nthe power of invisibility, having sat
\nstill and silent for so long
\non a trunkful of vignettes and jittery,
\nunsettled wisdom\u2014having found yourself
\nagain, and at such an age, as unformed and
\nuninhabited
\nas the body of a Maiden.<\/p>\n
