Harding Icefield’s chilled womb pushes
\nthe infant glacier toward the terminal
\nmoraine sprawled on Resurrection River.
\nAs other infants’ skull bones knit together,
\nExit’s crack and cleave, blue fissures thrust in thunder.
\nShe flings herself down from the nunataks
\npast heather, avalanche lilies and beargrass.
\nShe crushes hillsides into plains,
\nhundred-year Sitka spruces to toothpicks,
\nboulders to glacial flour,
\nthe power in her weight a blue statement
\non the way to the grave.<\/p>\n
