{"id":495,"date":"2012-06-04T20:53:40","date_gmt":"2012-06-05T04:53:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kathleenflenniken.com\/blog\/?p=495"},"modified":"2012-06-04T20:53:40","modified_gmt":"2012-06-05T04:53:40","slug":"student-poem-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kathleenflenniken.com\/blog\/?p=495","title":{"rendered":"Student Poem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>True Music<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Playing an instrument is like reading a book<br \/>\nWith each stroke, the plot thickens and creates a hook<br \/>\nIt starts off happy, until disaster comes<br \/>\nMusic explodes like thunder then is followed by quiet hums<br \/>\nCaused by the disaster no one knew would come<\/p>\n<p>Music begins returning as a hero appears in the gloom<br \/>\nSlowly, a magnificent crescendo fills the room<br \/>\nFor the hero began the battle with the dreaded evil that lay before him<br \/>\nThe song&#8217;s intense, as well as the battle<br \/>\nBut the hero is winning, and his rival starts to cower<\/p>\n<p>For the battle is finally over<br \/>\nAs peace is restored to the land<br \/>\nBoth with song and story<br \/>\nBeginning to end<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kevin is an eighth grader in Janet Freece&#8217;s Language Arts class at Mt. Solo Middle School in Longview. I visited last month and had the pleasure of hearing Kevin and many of his classmates recite their own poems as well as classic poems like &#8220;The Cremation of Sam McGee&#8221; by Robert Service and &#8220;One Art&#8221; by Elizabeth Bishop. They had also worked on a project &#8220;interviewing&#8221; dead poets, and turned some of their questions on me.
