In the windows we were drawn:
\nI held my knobby baby
\nin dawn\u2019s automotive light.
\nA fleet of cars sailed by
\nas school-kids stomped their boots
\nshook their shiny coats.
\nI put my baby in a basket.
\nWe slept in fits & as the weather
\nturned we started to grow older.<\/p>\n

\nlet him go. We went in circles.
\nThis is the way the farmers ride.<\/em>
\nAnother year. Another.
\nI lost count of worn-out shoes.
\nBees came to the flowers of his ears.
\nHis hair got long.<\/p>\n
\nlettered to the ground &
\nI became a tree.
\nI swung my boy like a bell
\nby his knees. His mouth
\nmade the shape of a song.
\nWhere had he heard it?
\nI listened to the tune.
\nThis was not a song I\u2019d known.<\/p>\n
