{"id":397,"date":"2012-05-01T14:23:39","date_gmt":"2012-05-01T22:23:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kathleenflenniken.com\/blog\/?p=397"},"modified":"2012-05-01T16:22:25","modified_gmt":"2012-05-02T00:22:25","slug":"kevin-miller","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kathleenflenniken.com\/blog\/?p=397","title":{"rendered":"Kevin Miller"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chrome and Oranges<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Some days I drag what I have done<br \/>\nlike a sack of wet laundry,<br \/>\nthe more I lug the heavier it gets,<br \/>\nand if I don\u2019t tend to it, it sours.<br \/>\nTub of guts, we said as kids\u2014<br \/>\nit had nothing to do with towing,<br \/>\nstill this knowing attracts flies.<br \/>\nMight as well add envy to the pile,<br \/>\njealous as I am of those able to forget.<br \/>\nAnd while stench may be a trigger,<br \/>\nI cannot recall the name of the woman<br \/>\nat work who smelled like shower steam<br \/>\non powdered skin every morning for ten<br \/>\nglorious years. Instead, something I said<br \/>\nto J.B. forty years ago appears like a bull<br \/>\non the highway. It gives asphalt a lesson<br \/>\non black, leaves me replaying a stupid beef<br \/>\nover a woman who left both of us.<br \/>\nThe Christmas I was ten I rode my new bike<br \/>\nto Richard\u2019s to show off all that chrome.<br \/>\nHe showed me checkers and an orange.<br \/>\nThose handlebars rust at the bottom of the sack.<br \/>\nBad days, I hang each item on a line.<br \/>\nThey sag like wet squares of sheetrock.<br \/>\nFrom a distance, you might wonder how<br \/>\none man could own so many white shirts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Chrome and Oranges&#8221; previously appeared in the <em>Massachusetts Review.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.smashwords.com\/profile\/view\/homeandaway\">Kevin Miller<\/a> lives in Tacoma, WA. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pleasureboatstudio.com\/\">Pleasure Boat Studio <\/a>published his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lorenwebster.net\/In_a_Dark_Time\/category\/poets\/kevin-miller\/\">third collection,\u00a0<\/a><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.spdbooks.org\/Producte\/9781929355488\/home-amp-away-the-old-town-poems.aspx\">Home &amp; Away: The Old Town Poems<\/a><\/em> in 2008. Miller taught in the public schools of Washington State for thirty-nine years.
