Walking Meditation<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
This time we\u2019ll walk in silence.
\nYou\u2019ll trip on hidden roots;
\nmy boots will sink into sand
\nas we try to understand it all,
\nand fail, of course,
\nagain.
\nOur vows of silence, too,
\nwill end,
\nour minds both hungry and full.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis must be the way\u201d you\u2019ll say,
\nyour voice blustery, assured,
\ngesturing onward
\nto the beyond.
\nI\u2019ll follow, trusting
\nyour sense of direction
\nmore than mine. Surely
\nthis time it will lead us
\nto the crucible.<\/p>\n
But we\u2019ll circle back
\nto where we\u2019ve been,
\nwith just a glint of recognition.
\nThe truest test still lives
\nin a riddle
\ndangling above our crowns.
\nWe can barely touch its edges
\nand never get
\nthe gist of it.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth Landrum, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist whose work has most recently appeared in\u00a0Southern Womens Review<\/em>,\u00a0<\/a>Grey Sparrow,<\/a> and RiverLit.<\/a><\/em>\u00a0Her poems have also been published in\u00a0Shark<\/a><\/em>\u00a0Reef\u00a0<\/em><\/a>where she has served as co-editor for poetry.\u00a0 She received her doctorate in Psychology from the University of Louisville and practiced as a private psychotherapist for 30 years in Louisville, KY and Edmonds, WA.\u00a0 After retiring, she moved to an island in the San Juans where she shares a new home with her wife and two dogs.\u00a0 She has found inspiration for her poetry from her beautiful Northwest surroundings, from the inner world of dreams, from stories of suffering and survival, as well as from other poets.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Walking Meditation This time we\u2019ll walk in silence.
