To let him win, <\/p>\n \u201cWord Game with a Little Boy\u201d is from the full-length collection, One of Seven Billion,<\/em> which will be published in the spring of 2014 by Moonpath Press.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Tim Sherry,<\/a> a long-time public high school teacher and principal, lives in Tacoma, Washington.\u00a0 He earned a BA from PacificLutheranUniversityand an MA from the Universityof Chicago.\u00a0 His poems have appeared in Crab Creek Review<\/em>, The Raven Chronicles<\/em>,<\/a> Interdisciplinary Humanities<\/em>, and Seminary Ridge Review<\/em> among others.\u00a0 He has been a Pushcart nominee, and most recently his poem \u201cOf Fires\u201d was a finalist for the Rash Award in Poetry<\/a> and published in the Broad River Review<\/em>. \nwith five letters and a Q
\non the triple word square
\nis too much ethics to decide–
\nand I make ON<\/em>
\nup in the corner.
\nWe show our left-over letters
\nand subtract the points.
\nHe beats my by 8,
\nthrows his hands up in the air,
\nand smiles all the victory
\nof a little boy
\nwho doesn\u2019t need to learn
\nso much about losing just yet.
\nWhen we are putting the game away,
\nhe looks at me
\nand asks if I let him win.
\nInside the box
\nthere must be a big word to answer;
\nbut I say no,<\/em>
\nand he looks at me as if
\nhe is adding up in his head
\nwhat just happened.<\/p>\n
