\nWe have your pet rabbit. Meet
\nUs at the corner of 65th and Spring
\nAnd we\u2019ll hand it over, no questions.
\nOK. Maybe we\u2019ll ask a few questions.
\nWhy can\u2019t birds fly backwards?
\nI have seen their ragged feathers
\nSometimes and I know they want to
\nDo it. I have seen them resting
\nIn the eaves, weary from long days
\nOf flying. Why do rabbits crawl into
\nHoles? Where do ants build a nest?
\nWould you come home with me?
\nI\u2019ll make you a pot of tea.
\nWe\u2019ll sit by the window, safe from
\nThe rain, and talk for hours,
\nLike two encyclopedias meeting
\nFor the first time. And your rabbit
\nCan hang out on the kitchen floor,
\nChewing grass from the backyard.
\nHe will be utterly contented.<\/p>\n
