Meet<br \/>\nUs at the corner of 65th and Spring<br \/>\nAnd we\u2019ll hand it over, no questions.<br \/>\nOK. Maybe we\u2019ll ask a few questions.<br \/>\nWhy can\u2019t birds fly backwards?<br \/>\nI have seen their ragged feathers<br \/>\nSometimes and I know they want to<br \/>\nDo it. I have seen them resting<br \/>\nIn the eaves, weary from long days<br \/>\nOf flying. Why do rabbits crawl into<br \/>\nHoles? Where do ants build a nest?<br \/>\nWould you come home with me?<br \/>\nI\u2019ll make you a pot of tea.<br \/>\nWe\u2019ll sit by the window, safe from<br \/>\nThe rain, and talk for hours,<br \/>\nLike two encyclopedias meeting<br \/>\nFor the first time. And your rabbit<br \/>\nCan hang out on the kitchen floor,<br \/>\nChewing grass from the backyard.<br \/>\nHe will be utterly contented.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Koenig has a Master\u2019s Degree in English from the University of Connecticut and has taught English and writing at home and abroad. For over 10 years she was a reporter and freelancer. Her stories have appeared in <a href=\"nline.com\/authors\/sarah-koenig\"><em>City Arts<\/em> <\/a>magazine, <em>Seattle\u2019s Child<\/em> magazine, <em>Overlake Hospitals\u2019 Healthy Outlook<\/em> magazine, the <em>Weekly Herald,<\/em> the Enterprise Newspapers and the newspapers of the King County Journal.
