The Barnacle<\/p>\n
Startled,
\nthe barnacle
\nhunkers to hide
\nuntil she is only
\na stony, cone-shaped shell,
\nsilent and still,
\nin the shallow tide.<\/p>\n
But when I stop
\nand when I sit
\nand when I watch
\nand wait a bit,
\nshe reappears to dance about,
\nin and out,
\nthis way and that,
\nlike a feather on a fancy hat
\ncaught in the wind.<\/p>\n
