I\u2019ll wait.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t remember<br \/>\nyesterday. It\u2019s the same as today.<br \/>\nThe only difference is<br \/>\nthe planet moved<br \/>\nslightly \u2013<\/p>\n<p>How lucky I<br \/>\nam to have<br \/>\nthis chair,<br \/>\nthe one you used<br \/>\nto sit in.<\/p>\n<p>It took<br \/>\nyou eight years to die.<br \/>\nAll that time<br \/>\nI waited for you to get better.<br \/>\nWhy didn\u2019t you?<\/p>\n<p>Listening<br \/>\nto Mozart , I see<br \/>\nus holding hands,<br \/>\nsnuggling in the movies<br \/>\nwatching Amadeus.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes<br \/>\nwhen I look in the mirror<br \/>\nI see you.<br \/>\nEven our hair is the same\u2014<br \/>\n&#8212; curly and mussed.<\/p>\n<p>I<br \/>\nno longer<br \/>\nwear<br \/>\na mourner\u2019s<br \/>\nfrock.<\/p>\n<p>There is<br \/>\nno sorrow in my missing you<br \/>\nonly gratefulness<br \/>\nthat we have<br \/>\nbeen.<\/p>\n<p>But on some days<br \/>\nlike today<br \/>\nthe third anniversary<br \/>\nof your death<br \/>\nmy heart longs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.estherhelfgott.com\/\">Esther Altshul Helfgott<\/a>\u00a0is a nonfiction writer and poet with a PhD in history from the University of Washington.
