INTERSECTION OF ROY AND BROADWAY<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
To encourage the sons along beside him,
\nthe dad clasps hands.
\nThey each get one side,
\ncan share him this way equally.
\nWaiting for the light to change,
\nthe father leans down
\nto the seven-year-old, kisses his neck.
\nSon\u2019s shoulder reacts to the tickle.
\nThe other son, eleven years old,
\nlooks away from this affection,
\nis embarrassed, jealous,
\none cannot say except in the way
\nhe does not look at them,
\nmerely holds tight dad\u2019s hand.
\nThe one held out just for him.<\/p>\n

Jan\u00e9e J. Baugher<\/a> is the author of Co\u00f6rdinates of Yes<\/em> <\/a>(Ahadada Books). Her poetry has been adapted for the stage at University of Cincinnati, Interlochen Center for the Arts, and elsewhere. Since earning an MFA from Eastern Washington University, Baugher has attended Bread Loaf Writers\u2019 Conference and held residences at Soaring Gardens Artist Retreat, Centrum, and the Island Institute of Sitka. Her nonfiction, fiction, and poetry have been published in Boulevard, Verse Daily<\/em>, Portland Review,<\/em>\u00a0and The Monarch Review,<\/a> <\/em>among other places, and twice nominated for the Pushcart Prize.
