The Far Field is closed for submissions. \u00a0From February 2012 to February 2014, The Far Field showcased the depth and breadth and vibrancy of Washington State Poetry. It remains online as a resource and celebration of the poets of all levels who live and\u00a0write in Washington.<\/p>\n

The Far Field has been curated by\u00a0Kathleen Flenniken<\/a>, the 2012 – 2014 Washington State Poet Laureate.<\/a> The Washington State Poet Laureate program is sponsored by Humanities Washington<\/a> and \u00a0the Washington State Arts Commission.<\/a><\/p>\n

The 2014 – 2016 Washington State Poet Laureate\u00a0was Elizabeth Austen.<\/a> \u00a0The 2016 – 2018 Washington State Poet Laureate is Tod Marshall. Please visit his\u00a0site to learn about his\u00a0plans and new programs.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

I dream of journeys repeatedly:
\nOf flying like a bat deep into a narrowing tunnel
\nOf driving alone, without luggage, out a long peninsula,
\nThe road lined with snow-laden second growth,
\nA fine dry snow ticking the windshield,
\nAlternate snow and sleet, no on-coming traffic,
\nAnd no lights behind, in the blurred side-mirror,
\nThe road changing from glazed tarface to a rubble of stone,
\nEnding at last in a hopeless sand-rut,
\nWhere the car stalls,
\nChurning in a snowdrift
\nUntil the headlights darken.<\/p>\n
